The Empire State Building is an Art Deco skyscraper in downtown Manhattan, New York. Shreve, Lamb & Harmon designed this building and it was completed in 1931. Its name comes from Empire State, nicknamed New York, of unknown origin. The Empire State Building was the tallest building in the world for almost 40 years before the completion of the construction of the North Tower of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan in late 1970. After the attacks of September 11, 2001, it was again the tallest building in New York before the New World Trade Center was built in April 2012.
